Borussia Dortmund reaches Champions League quarter-finals

Sancho and Reus lead Dortmund past PSV

Atletico Madrid awaits in the next round

Borussia Dortmund reached the Champions League quarter-finals for the first time in three years thanks to goals from Jadon Sancho and Marco Reus against PSV Eindhoven on Tuesday.

Sancho opened the scoring in the 29th minute with a clinical finish after being played in by Reus. Reus then doubled Dortmund's lead in the 58th minute with a header from a cross by Julian Brandt.

PSV pulled one back through Donyell Malen in the 78th minute, but it was too little too late for the Dutch side.

Dortmund will now face Atletico Madrid in the quarter-finals. The first leg will be played in Madrid on Wednesday, April 14, with the return leg in Dortmund on Tuesday, April 20.

Atletico Madrid beat last season's runners-up Inter Milan in the last 16. Head coach Diego Simeone says Borussia Dortmund is the hardest side Atletico Madrid could have drawn.

"They are a very good team, with a lot of quality and experience," Simeone said. "They are also very well-coached by Edin Terzic. It will be a very difficult tie for us, but we are confident that we can overcome them."

Dortmund has won two of its last three matches against Atletico Madrid, including a 4-0 victory in the 2016-17 Champions League semi-finals.

A trip to the city of Madrid in Spain and a chance to knock out a top team like Atlético Madrid is the appetizer for the most passionate fans in Germany.
