Baldwin's Manslaughter Case Dismissed

Judge Dismisses Charges in Baldwin Involuntary Manslaughter Case

Actor Faces 18 Months in Prison if Convicted

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — The involuntary manslaughter case against actor Alec Baldwin was dismissed in dramatic fashion on Friday after the judge overseeing the case ruled that the prosecution had failed to prove that Baldwin had acted with willful disregard for the safety of others.

Baldwin, best known for his role on the NBC sitcom "30 Rock" and for portraying Donald Trump on sketch show "Saturday Night Live," wept as the judge read from the ruling. He had arrived in court this week more than two years and eight months after the fatal shooting on the "Rust" set and a long legal battle that had seen the case dismissed once before only to be reinstated on appeal.

The actor, who is 66, could have faced up to 18 months in prison if convicted. However, the judge ruled that the prosecution had not met its burden of proof, finding that Baldwin had relied on the assurances of the film's weapons master and assistant director that the gun was unloaded.

Former President Donald Trump has spoken out against actor Alec Baldwin, opining that the tragic shooting death of Halyna Hutchins on the "Rust" set could have been prevented if Baldwin had been more careful.
