Soufiane Rahimi scores twice to put Morocco 2-0 up

Argentina pull one back but Morocco hold on for famous win

Saint-Etienne, France – Morocco stunned Argentina in their opening match of the Olympic Games on Saturday, with Soufiane Rahimi scoring either side of half-time to secure a famous 2-0 victory.

Rahimi opened the scoring in the 26th minute, latching onto a through ball from Abderrazak Hamed-Allah and firing past Argentine goalkeeper Jeremias Ledesma.

The Moroccans doubled their lead just before the break, with Rahimi again the scorer. This time, he was on the end of a cross from Noussair Mazraoui, and he made no mistake with a first-time finish.

Argentina pulled one back in the second half through Cristian Medina, but Morocco held on for a famous victory.

The win gives Morocco a huge boost in their bid to reach the knockout stages of the tournament. They will face Australia in their next match on Wednesday, while Argentina will take on Spain.
